Maybe it started with a little China sorrel, a raincoat and boots covered in pink mustangs, or her very first Breyer horse. Maybe it was the first ride on her grandmother’s Belgian. Whatever the spark, horses real and pretend have been woven into Matilda’s life for as long as she can remember.

She grew up taking lessons and attending camps at the very facility where she now serves as Lead Farm Hand and an aspiring trainer. Time away from horses only deepened her passion, and today she spends her days caring for them, learning from them, and guiding others to do the same.

Some kids outgrow their miniature barns and plastic ponies. Some never do. Matilda is one of those who never did.

We at Anna's Acres couldn’t be prouder to have her as part of our family!

Horses have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Born at Homestead Air Force Base in Miami and raised in Mobile, Alabama, my first word was the name of my childhood horse, Ginger, an early sign of a lifelong passion.

I grew up immersed in the horse world through my mother, a riding instructor and Girl Scout camp counselor. Summers were spent riding, learning, and helping care for horses. After moving to Texas, I continued through the Girl Scouts’ S.P.U.R.S. program, teaching younger riders grooming and basic riding skills, and assisting my mom with Hippotherapy. Witnessing children experience confidence, connection, and breakthroughs through horses left a lasting impact on me.

At 17, I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a Security Forces Officer and later had the opportunity to run barrels on a local Air Force rodeo team. After returning to Indiana, I raised my family and passed along my love of horses. My oldest began riding at age two and showing independently by five, and for nearly two decades our family has borrowed, leased, and owned horses together.

Today, life is full with seven amazing kids, a busy household, and a small herd of big personalities; including two red mares, Tizzy and Lola; three miniature horses, Scotch, Tator Tot, and Peanut; and a sweet mini donkey, Rowdy. Scotch, my first mini, sparked my love for miniature horses.

Horses have shaped every chapter of my life, and I’m passionate about creating a welcoming, uplifting space where people of all ages and abilities can experience the connection, confidence, and healing horses provide.
